Blending single essential oils together is quite a science and one that I would not recommend unless you have studied the chemical constiuents of each single oil and understand the ramifications of combining sesquiterpenes and phenols, for example. Gary Young is a master blender and can tell you exactly the components of an oil just by inhalation. "Each of our blends are formulated to maximize the synergistic effect beween various oil chemistries and harmonic frequencies. When chemistry and frequency coincide, noticeable physical, spiritual and emotional benefits can be attained." ~ Essential Oil Desk Reference, 4th Edition
The following information on each oil is from the Essential Oils Desk Reference, 4th Edition published by Essential Science Publishing and Young Living Essential Oils; books are listed below for purchase.

Copaiba Essential Oil is one of the newest essential oils from our Ecuador farm — a powerful essential oil from the Amazon that has traditionally been used to aid digestion and support the body's natural response to injury or irritation (scientific research not yet available). Copaiba contains the highest amounts of beta caryophyllene (55 percent) of any known essential oil. Copaiba essential oil is extracted from the oleoresin of several different species of Copaifera, including multijuga, langsdorffii, and reticulata. Traditionally used in Native American recipes, today copaiba is featured in European and North American pharmacopeias.
Copaiba is the only essential oil extracted through tapping, similar to how rubber and maple are obtained. Once tapped, the copaiba resin is distilled to produce a clear essential oil that has a rich, uplifting, woody smell. Only copaiba essential oil found near the Amazon rain forest basin contains the optimal natural compounds needed for a Young Living Therapeutic Grade™ essential oil. Gas Chromatograph and Mass Spectrometer testing shows copaiba contains high levels of beta caryophyllene (a sesquiterpene), gamma elemene, and alpha humalene, used in the past to aid the natural processes of redness and irritation of body tissue.
Virtually all companies who offer copaiba or copal sell only the tree resin, not the distilled essential oil. Copaiba resin (what is tapped from the copaiba tree) has been used for hundreds of years as an incense in some Central and South American cultures. Copaiba oleoresin and essential oil was first recorded in European medicine journals in 1625. Copaiba essential oil contains the highest amount of beta caryophyllene (55 percent) of any known essential oil.
Historically, Copaiba resin and essential oil was first recorded in European medicine in 1625 (it was brought back from the New World by the Jesuits and called Jesuit's balsam), and has been used in South America for the treatment of a variety of ailments. In the United States, it was an official drug in the U.S. Pharmacopoeia from 1820 to 1910. Ethanobotanist Mark Plotkin reports that Copaiba oil has disinfectant, diuretic, laxative and stimulant properties. The Encyclopedia of Common Natural Ingredients cites copaiba as possessing diuretic, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, expectorant, disinfectant and stimulant capabilities. In 2004, a review of over two dozen essential oils published in the International Journal of Aromatherapy, copaiba was ranked second-highest in its ability to block a compound involved in systemic inflammation: 5-lipoxygenase. It ranked much higher than helichrysum and German chamomile, two other potent inflammation reducers. Healers and curanderos in the Amazon of Brazil rely on copaiba to treat chronic pain and it is used as a topical agent to reduce inflammation for all types of skin irritations and infections. They also employ the oil as a strong antiseptic and expectorant for the respiratory tract and urinary tract. In Peruvian traditional medicine, three or four drops of the resin are mixed with a spoonful of honey and taken as a natural sore throat remedy. Peruvian traditional medicine also uses copaiba in the treatment of a wide range of issues including herpes and tuberculosis.
Spiritual Uses: In many traditions, the conscious, active mind is considered an obstacle to spirituality, because it pulls us away from focusing on what is truly important. Copaiba balm brings discernment, helping us to focus on what is truly meaningful from a spiritual perspective. It also helps us to be more effective at dealing with the less important aspects of our lives. When our mind is aligned with the divine, the gifts of vision, faith, humility and wisdom are bestowed. Use during times of mental stress and confusion, to identify and reconnect with our spiritual goals, to help us focus on what is spiritually important, when we are spending too much time thinking about the future or reviewing the past, to give us wisdom in a particular situation. Aligns the human mind with the spiritual mind, by connecting the 3rd Eye and Crown Chakras. Apply to top of head, centre of forehead and feet. Affirmation: "I am focused and attuned to the divine". The natives have used Copaiba for thousands of years to connect with the Creator in their spiritual practices.

Dorado Azul Essential Oil (Guayofolis officionalis) — rich in eucalyptol and beta pinene, Dorado Azul has powerful purifying properties, improves digestion and enhances mood. It has a red liquid when distilled and the natives use it to reverse cancer. It looks like stinging nettle, found in the highlands on the coastal area, very aromatic. Some called it goldenweed, because the local people don't have a common name for it; no one knew what it was for sure or what to call it but it is part of the labiatae family. A sample was sent it to a botanist, and he could not identify it.
Dorado Azul has little blue flowers; the leaf turns blue on tips when it has matured. It contains many compounds that are very interesting: Alpha pinenes, to modulate brain function. Hypothalamus is the first to de-regulate hormone balance and thyroid balance. Limonene is effective with tumors and cancers; eucalyptol 1.8 cineol reduces inflammation. People have experienced a 72% reduction in steroids with use of 1.8 cineol. Fenchone, a hormone molecule, balances estrogen; terpinene 4-ol, which has never been seen before in an oil, is remarkable for respiratory uses. At the Clinic in Eucador, they are giving Dorado Azul intravenously and experiencing remarkable results.
Gary has a large crop of Dorado Azul in Ecuador and is in the process of distillation. The brix is 5-6 at noon, goes up to 10 (this determines the best time to harvest a plant, by measuring the moisture content of the plant at different times of day). Yields 8 ton of plant to the acre. Very dense, 13 feet of height. Grows very fast in Ecuador; everything does!
Use Dorado Azul with Idaho Balsam Fir for muscle aches and pain.

Eucalyptus Blue™ Essential Oil has a fresh, invigorating aroma that supports normal breathing and soothes tense muscles. This essential oil is grown and harvested in Ecuador and is an important ingredient in the Breathe Again™ Roll On. This essential oil contains high levels of the powerful constituents eucalyptol and alpha-pinene, effective in thwarting bacteria and other pathogens.
For centuries the native people of Ecuador have used the disinfecting leaves to cover wounds and to repel insects. While traveling the jungles of the country, Gary Young recognized the benefits of the eucalyptus and began steam distilling the leaf at the Finca Botanica Aromatica distillery. The Eucalyptus Blue™ essential oil produced from these leaves has a fresh, balanced, invigorating aroma. The oil has the highest amount of alpha-pinene among any of the eucalyptus essential oils, as well as high levels of the powerful constituent eucalyptol. The healing benefits of Eucalyptus Blue™ are combined with three other powerful Young Living eucalyptus essential oils in the new Breathe Again™ Roll-On, where it helps to promote normal breathing.
Eucalyptus Blue™ supports respiratory function when diffused, and is said to have an expansive effect that can be both calming and invigorating. Eucalyptus feels cool to the skin and warm to the muscles. This versatile oil also helps soothe away muscle tension when applied topically, and relaxes the body after exercise. Combine eucalyptus essential oils with lavender essential oil to increase the sweetness.

Ishpingo Essential Oil ~ The essential oil of Ishpingo (Ocotea quixos, Lauraceae) fruit calices was analysed by GC (gas chromatography) and GC-MS (gas chromatography—mass spectrometry). Fourty-four compounds were identified. The main components detected were trans-cinnamaldehyde (27.9%), methylcinnamate (21.6%), 1,8-cineole (8.0%), benzaldehyde (3.6%), and β-selinene (2.1%). In vitro antioxidant properties of the essential oil, obtained by DPPH (1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl) and β-carotene bleaching assays, were also evaluated. The oil exerted a relatively good capacity to act as a non-specific donor of hydrogen atoms or electrons when checked by the diphenylpicrylhydrazyl assay, quenching 52% of the radical. On the other hand, it showed weak effects in inhibiting oxidation of linoleic acid when assayed by the β-carotene bleaching test. Antibacterial activity of the essential oil was also checked against gram positive (Enterococcus foecalis, Staphylococcus aureus) and gram negative strains (Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa). The oil also showed a dose-dependent antifungal activity against Candida albicans, Saccharomyces cerevisiae, phytopathogen Pythium ultimum and dermatophyte Trichophyton mentagrophytes. ~ Research from Science Direct

Ocotea Essential Oil (Ocotea quixos) ~ Young Living's newest therapeutic grade essential oil revealed at 2009 convention, is extracted from the stem and leaves of the ocotea tree in Ecuador and is related to the cinnamon species. This essential oil has an aroma that is different from any common cinnamon. Often called "American cinnamon", the ocotea tree produces bark and leaves that have virtually the same odor as cinnamon grown in Asia but with a chemistry that is very different. Ocotea has the highest level of alpha humulene of any essential oil, a powerful compound to alleviate inflammation (and may have even wider ranging effects than beta caryophyllene) and also has natural cleansing and purifying properties. A study at Saint Catherine Federal University found that alpha humulene blocked two different cytokines which reduce inflammation, while beta caryophyllene inhibited only one.
Ocotea essential oil is wild crafted and distilled at Finca Botánica Aromática, Young Living's farm and distillery in Ecuador in the Amazon. Ocotea is harvested from a large tree found in the Amazon Basic of Ecuador, from sea level up to 1,500 meters in altitude. The trees are divided into male and female trees, with only the female trees producing foliage suitable for distillation into essential oils. Historical usage of ocotea dates back more than 500 years, when it was used to aromatize sweets and cakes. Like copaiba, the ocotea tree has long been a source of health and wellness for indigenous cultures of the Amazon. Anecdotal data suggests that in an effort to benefit from ocotea's healthful properties, natives of this area would steep the leaves and fruit calyx (husk) in water for a time before drinking the water. Amazonian peoples have long revered ocotea for its purification abilities. For this reason, it is still employed today in different purification rituals.
Though there are hints of a cinnamon base, ocotea is different from traditional cinnamon. Ocotea has high levels of alpha humulene — one of the highest of any known essential oil. Alpha humulene can balance the body's internal response to irritation. Only copaiba essential oil has comparable levels of this natural plant compound. Science has helped illuminate how ocotea oil may exert its healing benefits: a recent study from Italian researchers found that ocotea oil may prevent the clotting of red blood cells and protect the blood vessels. Other research from a separate team of Italian scientists identified more than 40 compounds in ocotea oil. These findings indicate that ocotea possesses significant antioxidant, antibacterial and antifungal properties. (Research: Tung YT, Chua MT, Wang SY, Chang ST. Palo Santo Essential Oil (Bursera graveolens) comes from the same botanical family (Burseraceae) as frankincense, although it is found in South America rather than the Middle East. Like frankincense, palo santo is known as a spiritual oil, traditionally used by the Incas to purify and cleanse the spirit from negative energies. Even its Spanish name reflects how highly this oil is regarded: Palo santo means "holy wood" or "sacred wood."
Found growing in the northern part of Ecuador as well as some in the southern part. The tree produces oil the while it is alive, but when it dies, the oil goes in to the heartwood which is steamed distilled to get the essential oil out. The tree is protected, but Young Living has permission to harvest the dead trees.
Palo Santo (Bursera graveolens), is an essential oil high in limonene (60-65%), about the same amount found in Young Living's Therapeutic Grade™ lemon essential oil. Palo Santo has been used for years in folk medicines and in liniments and has properties similar to frankincense and is effective against viruses and tumors. Palo Santo can also be worn as a perfume to release negative energy.
How to use: For topical use, apply 1-2 drops on affected area. For aromatic use, inhale directly as needed or diffuse/humidify for 10-15 minutes daily. Keep in a cool, dark place.

RutaVaLa™ Essential Oil Blend promotes relaxation of the body and mind. It helps ease tension and relieve stress. The blend helps overcome negative feelings while encouraging a positive attitude and comfort.
Ingredients: Ruta graveolens (rue) oil, valeriana officinalis (valerian) root oil, and lavandula angustifolia (lavender) oil.
Product Story: Ruta comes from the Greek word meaning "To set free" freeing people from disease. Ruta has been distilled before, but not in 30 years and is a different profile from previously distilled Ruta, long carbon chains and nonynol 2 - modulates brain function. Chemical imbalance comes from diet and makes chemical transformations in the body, makes it hard to get out of depression. The Incas and Mayans used Ruta in a process to clear emotions similar to the Egyptians. Ecuadorians and Bolivians have used it for centuries and still use it daily. If people are depressed they brush the branches on the body and in the air; it affects serotonin in the neural cortex.
Unique to Young Living, RutaVaLa is a proprietary blend of Ruta graveolens (rue), lavender, and valerian essential oils. Although lavender and valerian are well known for their sedative properties, this blend introduces the less recognized, yet efficacious, ruta oil. The Ruta graveolens herb is farmed, harvested, and distilled at Gary Young’s farm in Ecuador. Use of the rue herb dates back many centuries and is referenced in the Bible as an herb to be tithed. When combined with lavender and valerian, this trio of essential oils is formulated to relax the body and mind, counter stressed nerves, and revitalize passion.
"Recently I mentioned the new oil of Ruta to a friend who is native of El Salvador, and her immediate comment was, "Yes, Ruta, very powerful. In our country, when someone had epileptic seizures, they would take the leaves of the Ruta plant and rub the body down with it and the seizure would stop. Hmmmmm… no wonder the blend called RutaVaLa has such impact (thank you, Gary Young)!!!! ~ Deborah Lynne Carlton"

Did you know that therapeutic grade essential oils from the Amazon contain more compounds or chemical constituents because of the rich volcanic soil in which they are grown? These plants are able to assist us by having a more global effect than plants grown elsewhere. This is especially important today with researchers discovering that even fungus are mutating which also means that there are various forms of black mold that exist today and only these oils so rich in compounds are able to prevent fungus, bacteria and viruses from mutating.
