Melissa Essential Oil (Melissa officinalis) has a light, fresh, lemony scent that is strengthening and revitalizing, yet soothing and calming. Several studies report that melissa may benefit the skin. It is also comforting during the winter season and supportive of immune system function. Melissa has an approximate ORAC of 1,343,547 (TE/L). TE/L is expressed as micromole Trolox equivalent per liter.
Melissa's purifying properties and ability to balance emotions make it one of Young Living's most precious and sought-after essential oils. Grown on the fertile ground of St. Maries, Idaho, cool weather and damp conditions help cultivate this amazing plant. Because Melissa yields a very small amount of oil compared to other herbs, special care is taken when harvesting and distilling to ensure the highest quality.
While many other companies offer imitation melissa by combining the desired constituents from a variety of oils, Gary Young's years of research and expertise have allowed us to perfect the process of distilling pure, all-natural melissa oil.
Historical Data: Anciently, Melissa essential oil was used for nervous disorders and many different ailments dealing with the heart or the emotions. It was also used to promote fertility. Melissa was the main ingredient in Carmelite water, distilled in France since 1611 by the Carmelite monks. Dr. Dietrich Wabner, a professor at the Technical University of Munich, reported that a one-time application of true melissa oil led to complete remission of Herpes Simplex lesions.
Uses: Melissa is excellent as a relaxant, to help reduce inflammation and infections, to eliminate depression, anxiety and insomnia.
Application: Dilution not required except for extremely sensitive skin. Dilute 1 part Melissa essential oil with 1 part organic vegetable oil. Apply directly on location, chakras/Vita Flex points, directly inhale, diffuse, or take as a dietary supplement. When using as a supplement, dilute one drop in 4 fl. oz. of liquid such as soy or rice milk or put 2 drops of Melissa essential oil in a capsule and take three times daily or as needed. Possible skin sensitivity. If pregnant or under a doctor's care, consult your physician.
